Important Updates on Solution Paper Submission

Dear MultiMediate’24 participants, to our surprise, we received news from the ACM Multimedia grand challenge chairs that this year, there will not be the possibility for challenge participants to submit solution papers to the conference. We asked the grand challenge chairs already on March 27 for the details on the submission process but only got a reply last week. In our understanding, being able to publish a solution paper at ACM Multimedia is one of the primary motivations of participating in the challenge (and it was the default policy during the last 3 years). Together with other grand challenge organizers, we are currently trying to convince the grand challenge chairs to reconsider their decision. We would be very interested in your take on this as challenge participants. So, please write us to what extent the inability to submit a solution paper would impact your participation in our challenge. Also, please indicate whether it is okay for you to cite from your response (including your name and affiliation) when writing to the grand challenge chairs. Grand challenge being able to send a PAPER is our main motivation and source of motivation, otherwise there is not much incentive to participate in the competition.

The multimedia challenge is to attract the multimedia research community by
establishing clear challenge questions, aiming to apply the most advanced
methods and inspire future research directions. If the paper cannot be
published, it will reduce the importance of the grand challenge and even
lower it to a regular workshop.

Dear MultiMediate’24 organizers,
The decision by the ACM Multimedia grand challenge chairs to not allow
submission of solution papers this year is disheartening. The opportunity
to publish a solution paper at ACM Multimedia has been a significant
motivation for participation in the challenge in previous years. As a
participant, this change greatly impacts my involvement.
Please consider our feedback when discussing this matter with the grand
challenge chairs. You have my permission to cite my response, including my
name and affiliation, when communicating with them.

Dear MultiMediate’24 organizers,
The recent announcement regarding the inability to submit solution papers
for the ACM Multimedia grand challenge is disappointing. The chance to
publish a solution paper at ACM Multimedia has always been a key incentive
for participation. This change significantly affects my decision to engage
in the challenge.
Please feel free to cite my response, along with my name and affiliation,
when addressing the grand challenge chairs.
Thanks and regards

Dear MultiMediate’24 organizers,
Hearing this news, we feel lost . Publishing solution papers on ACM Multimedia has always been an important reason for our participation and diligent preparation. If this is indeed the case, we will lose a lot of motivation and it will affect us to achieve good research results in this competition.
My response can be cited.

It is quite unreasonable to notify us of the decision now. If the decision was made earlier, we may decide to join the competition or not. By the way, the challenge is the traditional event of ACM MM, it is quite strange to get the notification from the challenge chair, but not from the PC chairs of ACM MM.
